The 49ers are hosting former Eagles defensive back Jaylen Watkins on a free agent visit, according to a report from NFL Network.

Watkins, 25, has played free safety and cornerback for Philadelphia, offering value as a reserve and special teams player.

San Francisco lacks depth in the secondary with Greg Mabin and Channing Stribling currently as the primary backups to starters Ahkello Witherspoon and Richard Sherman at cornerback. Additionally, the team lacks a primary backup to slot corner K’Waun Williams.

Watkins (6-0, 194) started five games for Philadelphia over the last two seasons. If added, he would presumably take the place of Leon Hall or Anton Exum Jr., who were both added midseason in 2017 after San Francisco suffered injuries to safeties Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward.
